Therapeutic approach and experience
Victoria is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). These methods can be practiced individually or can be combined, depending on what is most suitable for the client. Both therapies are designed to help us understand why we may be behaving and feeling the way we are, and aim to provide us with skills to manage our lives more effectively. They are brief therapies, usually lasting for between eight and twelve sessions.
Victoria has experience in the assessment and treatment of many areas of mental health, including the reduction and management of anxiety and depression; improving self-esteem and confidence; challenging negative thoughts and obsessive behaviours; overcoming panic attacks and phobias; alleviating symptoms of stress and trauma; improving communication and relationship issues; and teaching strategies to help make and keep lifestyle and work changes.
For the past fifteen years Victoria has studied and practiced in psychology and psychotherapy. She has worked in NHS, private and charitable settings, and is currently employed as a Consultant Psychologist for Hertfordshire Constabulary, and for The Oxford Stress and Trauma Centre.
