Nutritional Therapy![]() What is Nutritional Therapy?Nutritional therapy is the application of nutrition science to promote optimum health and well-being. It aims to change an individual?s biochemistry from an unbalanced state - which may be causing minor or distressing symptoms which may ultimately lead to diagnosable disease - to a state of balance, allowing the body to return to optimum health. The Nutritional Therapist takes the time to concentrate on the individual rather than the condition. Because we are all biochemically unique, we know that a treatment that suits one person may well not suit another. This is also the case with the myriad of diets that currently prevail - what works for one will not necessarily be effective for somebody else.
There are no 'blanket' treatments in nutritional therapy - by identifying what is causing the underlying problem in that individual, the Therapist will aim to eliminate this cause rather than just treat the symptoms.
The ConsultationYou will be asked to fill in a questionnaire prior to consultation and to seek medical advice to investigate any underlying serious condition. The questionnaire will include a detailed history of health problems, medical and family history, plus dietary and lifestyle factors. A nutritional assessment is then made, and a complete system assessment using meridian energy testing. This gives an initial indication of any food intolerances, digestive inefficiencies and other areas which might warrant attention. The initial consultation will last for approximately 1-1.5 hours and any follow-up will last up to an hour. On rare occasions, appropriate laboratory tests may be used. Dietary and lifestyle changes will be recommended, sometimes supported by nutritional supplements based on individual needs. Practitioners: Val Mowlam |
