Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic?

By restoring normal function to the musculoskeletal system chiropractors can play a major part in relieving disorders and any accompanying pain or discomfort arising from accidents, stress, lack of exercise, poor posture, illness and the every day wear and tear that happens to us all as we grow older and particularly to those who have had a long sporting life.

Chiropractors take an all round approach to health and well-being, which means that they consider your symptoms in the context of your full medical history, your lifestyle and your personal circumstances.

Why might I go to a chiropractor?

Even though the first thing that may spring to mind is that "chiropractors treat backs" -
which they certainly do very successfully, chiropractors treat every joint in the body.

Chiropractors also diagnose and treat other musculoskeletal disorders as well as a number of other conditions.

Different types of Chiropractic

There is a variety of different chiropractic techniques that are available. Each chiropractor tends to gravitate towards those that fit his/her practice style. Each of them are equally effective when matched with the patient's particular presentation.

There are classic chiropractic adjustings, where the hands are gently put on the back and the manipulation is done through gentle pressure. There are also what are called non-forced techniques that do not use that type of methodology. There are either manual chiropractic techniques, or instruments where the body is gently put into position and there is no movement or gentle thrust applied to the body.

Chiropractors treat:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Cervicogenic headache
  • Cervicogenic dizziness
  • Migraine
  • Extremity joint conditions - hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, elbow, wrist complaints
  • Sciatica
  • Sports injury
