Jo Caiger

Sometimes we feel like everything has got too much and we are unable to cope. Other times something specific is bothering us but whatever we try nothing seems to work. Jo can apply theory to the individual issue so that the client can make sense of things, identify choices and make the positive changes to a happier and more confident life.

Jo is an integrative trained counsellor meaning she draws from a range of psychotherapy and counselling techniques, as well as mindfulness practice, to suit the particular requirements of each client.  She is qualified to work with adults, teenagers and children and she strongly believes in ‘early intervention’ for young people and generally can arrange an appointment within a week.  Jo is happy to answer any queries by phone before booking an initial appointment.

She believes that relationship between herself and the client is equal and based on mutual trust and respect; that therapy is a collaborative process where they work together in order to reach the clients own unique counselling goal.

Jo has over 25 years’ experience working within the NHS. Most recently she has worked for Florence Nightingale Hospice, Rape Crisis and Trinity Health GP Practice.

She has experience working with men, women and children with issues such as anxiety, low mood and depression, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder, OCD, self-harm, low self-esteem issues, eating disorders, anger problems, bereavement, issues surrounding family break-ups, current and historical abuse.

Jo has a qualification in parenting and can offer individual sessions on a particular ‘problem’ or small group training workshops.

Jo regularly attends training courses & conferences: e.g. BACP Private Practice Conference (2016) on relationship issues; BACP Children and Young People Conference (2016) on gender identity and autism, The Adlerian Spring Conference (2017) and International Adlerian summer school in Bonn (August 2018).  She recently completed a Certificate in Attachment Narrative Therapy at the Bowlby Centre in London (June 2019).

Jo is married with two teenage children and has lived in the Thame area for 20 years.  She likes walking her dog and doing Zumba and Pilates.  She enjoys discovering new places and socialising with friends and family.
