PHYSIOTHERAPY

  • Physiotherapists consider the body as a whole, rather than just focusing on the individual aspects of an injury or illness.
  • Some of the main approaches used by physiotherapists include:
  • education and advice – physiotherapists can give general advice about things that can affect your daily lives, such as posture and correct lifting or carrying techniques to help prevent injuries
  • movement, tailored exercise and physical activity advice – exercises may be recommended to improve your general health and mobility, and to strengthen specific parts of your body
  • manual therapy – where the physiotherapist uses their hands to help relieve pain and stiffness, and to encourage better movement of the body

WHAT CONDITIONS DOES PHYSIOTHERAPY TREAT?

  • Physiotherapy can be helpful for people of all ages with a wide range of health conditions, including problems affecting the:
  • bones, joints and soft tissue – such as back pain neck pain, shoulder pain and sports injuries.
  • brain or nervous system – such as movement problems resulting from a stroke, multiple sclerosis (MS) or Parkinson’s disease
  • heart and circulation – such as rehabilitation after a heart attack
  • lungs and breathing – such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis
  • Physiotherapy can improve physical activity while helping  prevent further injuries.

STEPHEN REECE

  • Since qualifying in 1984 Stephen has worked extensively in all aspects of medical and surgical physiotherapy in the NHS
  • Managed a physiotherapy and sports injury department of a private hospital.
  • Stephen’s approach to treatment is a blend of his physiotherapy and acupuncture skills to effectively treat musculoskeletal injury, imbalance and over use by encouraging the body to work as a cohesive unit instead of a collection of different parts. A patient with pain in his back will not just receive palliative care of that area the function of the whole spine will be assessed and muscular and movement abnormalities will be corrected before pain relieving treatment is given.
  • Stephen firmly believes that there is no hi-tech substitute for the use of hands as the main tools of diagnosis and therapy, although he uses electrotherapy for treatment when it is required.
  • Stephen enjoys spending time with this family and as well as being a keen rugby supporter he was a Steward at Twickenham RFC. He enjoys playing five-aside football and badminton.

Steve is an independent qualified and registered practitioner working as an individual business and uses the Practice to manage his patient appointments
