Hypnotherapy utilises Hypnosis, an altered state of consciousness, in which the therapist awareness. Hypnotherapy is a strategic therapy aimed at providing rapid lasting solutions to everyday problems. It is rarely a long drawn out process, most clients will need 4-6 hours of therapy in total. For some, therapy will involve disconnecting a problem at its root cause ie. looking at the past; for others it will involve developing strategies for the future. In most cases, though, a combination of the two approaches will be used.
Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation, a day-dreamy state, in which your unconscious mind will accept positive suggestions. When your body is relaxed your mind becomes calm, and in a hypnotic state your mind becomes more receptive. Your unconscious mind is the “control” part of your mind, which is responsible for your reactions, habits and behaviours. It is also the realm of your emotions, and communicates with you through your feelings.
If you can relax and follow simple instructions then you definitely can be hypnotised. You won’t be unconscious, but you will feel deeply relaxed.
Occasionally some people do fall asleep, and that’s fine because the unconscious mind is always listening.
This fear usually stems from a misunderstanding about hypnosis. Hypnosis is not something that’s done to you, you are always in control. A hypnotist cannot take over your mind, although some stage hypnotists may make it look that way. Hypnosis is about mastering your own mind, mind over matter as the saying goes.
Hypnotherapy can help in the treatment of a wide range of issues including, phobias, anxiety, addictions – smoking, drugs, alcohol, weight loss and many other conditions.
If you could drive before the hypnosis, YES! Seriously, at the end of the session you will very quickly feel refreshed and alert, and will function just as perfectly as you did before the session.
